The Hanson Residence is an addition to an existing cabin, located in Girdwood, Alaska. The project focuses on maximizing natural day-lighting and the phenomenal views of Mt. Alyeska and the Girdwood valley from the site, while keeping the interior space relatively compact. The addition consists of a garage, lower level entry, master suite, kitchen and loft space. The loft in the central volume serves as an indoor greenhouse for the clients, who are plant enthusiasts. The exterior materials include cedar, metal paneling, and fiber resin panels. The cedar is stained to match the redwood siding of the original cabin. The fiber resin panels were installed on a rain screen system and will hold up well in Girdwood’s rainy climate.
